The first half of the year is behind us. It’s time for a mid-year performance check-up.

Are you on track to meet your professional goals?

If yes, continue being a rock star!

If no, there’s still time to accomplish your goals.

If your company requires an annual performance review, then take a look at your last review. There’s probably a list of target goals you need to accomplish before your next review.

If your company doesn’t require a performance review, then look at a list of goals you may have created at the beginning of the year.

If you didn’t create a list, then think about what you need to do for your next promotion or salary increase.

With your list of goals in front of you, review each one.

If you’ve already accomplished the goal, then summarize details of the accomplishment. Include the impact it had on your company by quantifying results.

This information will be helpful for your next career move – whether that’s staying with your current employer or pursuing a new employer.

If a goal is no longer relevant, then update it or delete it. There may have been a change in your company causing the goal to be no longer necessary.

If a goal still needs to be accomplished, then create an action plan. If it’s unrealistic to accomplish every outstanding goal, then identify the top three to focus your energy.

Breakdown each goal into achievable tasks. Target creating tasks you can accomplish within an hour. Depending on your workload, you may need to breakdown the tasks further.

Next, develop firm deadlines for each task to ensure you accomplish your goal in a timely manner. Be mindful that things may take longer to accomplish when the holidays begin (i.e., November and December).

Add the deadlines to your calendar and set reminders. Solicit input or help from colleagues if necessary.

As we roll into the third quarter of the year, assess how you are doing professionally. Take time to perform a mid- year performance check-up comparing your actual performance with your targeted goals. Stay PEF (positive, enthused, and focused) and make 2019 your best year ever!
