It’s that time of year when you’re away from home and your normal routine. It could be a few days or even a couple of weeks that you’re away on vacation.

During that time, it’s easy to stray from your healthy lifestyle. You may be lounging more than usual — at the beach, at the restaurant, around the rental house.

You may be dining out and snacking more than usual – even consuming more alcohol than usual.

Resist the temptation to stray from your healthy lifestyle by reminding yourself how long it took to get into shape. Also, follow these helpful tips to stay healthy while on vacation.

1- Pack healthy snacks.

When traveling pack healthy snacks to avoid the temptation of buying junk food. Try nuts, raisins, cherries, grapes, sunflower seeds – anything natural.

2- Drink water all day long.

By staying hydrated and sipping water all day, you’ll feel less hungry. If you’re consuming alcohol, drink a glass of water in between each alcoholic beverage.

3- Socialize away from food.

If snacks and food are on a table in the kitchen, relocate yourself to another room. It will help you avoid mindless snacking.

4- Decide on a healthy option before entering a restaurant.

Before going to a restaurant, look at the menu online and decide on a healthy option. When at the restaurant, do not look at the menu again or you may be tempted to change your choice to an unhealthy option.

5- Increase your physical activity.

Find ways during the day to increase physical activity – go for a long walk, bike, run, swim.

6- Find a nearby gym.

Schedule a workout in the morning before your day becomes busy. Utilize the fitness center at the hotel or nearby. Be flexible with your routine. Any amount helps even if it’s only for 15 minutes of strength training every other day.

7- Pack clothes that fit exactly.

These are your clothes that won’t fit if you gain a few pounds. If nothing else, this tip will keep you mindful of your activity level and what you’re eating.

While being on vacation is a great way to take a break from your normal routine, it’s also an easy way to stray from your healthy lifestyle. Create a plan for how you will stay healthy while on vacation. Make it simple and incorporate the above tips.
