Transform your regular day into an ideal day by incorporating something you enjoy into your routine.
Why add something more to your already hectic schedule?
It’s hard to imagine because, like most people, your day is consumed with very little down-time.
There are always things to do at work.
There’s an endless stream of emails to address, non-stop meetings, and unrealistic deadlines to meet.
There are always things to do at home.
Between chauffeuring kids, helping with homework, and simply coordinating schedules, family life can be hectic.
But adding a moment of joy will help reduce stress and transform your day.
What would you do if you had no responsibilities or deadlines?
Take a moment and brainstorm how you would spend a free day.
- Would you read?
- Would you watch your favorite program?
- Would you spend time with loved ones? Perhaps a leisurely brunch with your parents, a fun outing with your kids, or a quiet evening reminiscing with your spouse.
- Would you try a new restaurant?
- Would you take a nap?
There’s no wrong answer; however, there’s also no ‘right’ answer.
This exercise is completely for you.
As a result, the things you would do become a list of things you find joyful. Things that make you happy.
From this list, can you add one of those items to your daily routine?
Even if you only have five minutes, could you do something to add joy to your day?
For example, a quick video call with a distant relative or close friend.
Or maybe, five minutes of complete silence and deep breathing.
Even reading a book for five minutes.
Surprisingly, even if you do something joyful for five minutes, it can make a big difference in your day.
Challenge yourself to figure out what makes you smile – what gives you joy.
It’ll transform your day and reduce stress.
